Privacy policy

Bracketeer asks you to sign in with Google or Apple, and asks those services for nothing about you. No name, no email address. All we get is an anonymous identifier, and it is there for one reason: so your brackets survive a new phone.
Who is responsible
Bracketeer is made and run by XSV Development, the controller of the data described here. Reach us at support@bracketeer.me.
Signing in
You sign in with Google or Apple. We do not request your name or your email address, and neither service sends them to us. What we receive is the anonymous identifier that service issues for you, specific to Bracketeer and useless anywhere else. That identifier is the whole of what links your account to you, and it is never shown to anybody.
There is no password, because we never hold one. Google and Apple will know that you signed in to Bracketeer, which is covered by their own privacy policies rather than this one.
What the app stores on the device
Your brackets, your settings, your sound and haptics preferences and your draft work are held in the app's own storage on your phone. Uninstalling the app removes them.
What the server stores when sync is on
- The anonymous sign in identifier from Google or Apple, which is what lets you get your account back on a new phone.
- An install identifier generated on the device. It is not your advertising id.
- Your handle and crest colour, which are the only things other people see.
- The brackets you publish, their entrants, and the votes you cast.
- The crews you belong to, who runs them, and the messages and notices you post in them.
- Reports you file and the people you block, so both keep working across your devices.
- The app build your device is running, which is what lets an old build be told to update.
- A short lived request log kept for security and abuse handling.
There is no password and no email address. Bracketeer does not ask for your contacts, your photos, your precise location or your health data, and it does not track you across other apps or websites.
Where it is kept
On a server in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, inside the European Union. Traffic to it is encrypted with TLS. The database is backed up nightly and backups are kept for 30 days, after which they are deleted.
Why it is stored
To make the app work: to show a bracket to the people invited to it, to count a vote once per person, to deliver a message to a crew, to keep a block honoured, and to answer a report. Nothing here is sold, and none of it is used to build an advertising profile.
Who else sees anything
- Other people in the app see your handle, your crest, the brackets you publish, the votes you cast where a bracket shows them, and what you write in a crew.
- Google AdMob serves the banner in the free version and receives what its SDK needs to fill an ad request, under Google's own privacy policy. Bracketeer Pro removes ads.
- Apple and Google handle sign in and payment. Sign in tells them you use Bracketeer and tells us nothing about you. The Pro purchase receipt is passed to our server to confirm the subscription is real and current. We never see a card number.
- Nobody else. There are no analytics services, no trackers and no data brokers.
How long it is kept
For as long as the account exists. Delete it and the data goes with it. Backups age out within 30 days.
Deleting everything
Settings, then Delete account. It is immediate and it cannot be undone: the account, the sign in identifier, your brackets, your votes, your crew messages and your reports are removed from the server. A crew you ran passes to its longest standing member rather than being deleted with you, so you do not take other people's rooms down with your own account.
If you cannot reach the app, write to support@bracketeer.me and we will do it for you.
If you are in the EU or the UK you may ask for a copy of your data, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be erased. Write to support@bracketeer.me and we will answer within 30 days. You may also complain to your national data protection authority.
Children
Bracketeer is for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect anything from a child under 13. If you believe a child has been using it, write to us and the account will be removed.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and the app says so before you keep using it.
